The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi has recently adopted a new standard on the minimum requirements that health facilities must meet to provide services to tourists coming to the emirate for treatment.

The new standard aims to ensure that the emirate provides health services that are of the highest quality for those coming from abroad for treatment.

Dr. Asma Al Mannai, Director of the Department of Health Care, said: “Abu Dhabi today is adding a new page in its journey towards strengthening its position as a leading destination for medical tourism. “This is in addition to a number of attractions in the emirate, including its geographic location, advanced infrastructure and a sophisticated hospitality sector.”

She added: "We work in the Department along with various government and private health facilities, promoting ways of joint cooperation between the public and private sectors, believing in its role in making a qualitative leap in the output of the sector, and the representation of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi best representation for tourists coming for treatment."

Under the new standard, health facilities are subject to minimum requirements to be part of the medical tourism program and network launched by the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi.

The international accreditation requirements include obtaining international accreditation in the field of medical tourism according to the list of accreditations approved by the Department in the field. .

In addition, the Department requires health facilities - under the new standard - to report and report periodically to tourists receiving treatment in Abu Dhabi.
