Sentenced to 20 years in prison in June 2018, the leaders of Hirak are detained in the prison of Fez. Their conditions of detention, including their isolation, are criticized by their relatives and human rights associations, but justified by the prison authorities.

Last Friday, relatives and families of the Hirak detainees , a social movement that shook northern Morocco in 2016-2017 , demonstrated in Rabat before the General Delegation for Prison Administration. The protesters denounced the poor living conditions of the detainees, locked up in cells and deprived of family visits and telephone calls for 45 days.

Sanctions applied just after the social media broadcast of the audio recording, made from prison, of Nasser Zefzafi, one of the leaders of the movement. He claims to have been tortured and raped during his arrest.

Conditions of detention justified by the prison authorities

According to the prison authorities, this " placement in disciplinary cells " was decided " to preserve the security of the prison ", after the aggression of officials by detainees. Decisions justified as being " taken against a group of detainees who rebelled and refused to submit to orders ".

Families continue to demand the release of detainees they call policies, but also the improvement of the situation in prisons, in light of international agreements signed by Morocco.
