The Department of Social Services in the Emirate of Sharjah revealed to Emirates Today that it has resolved 45 cases related to the protection of children's rights amicably without reaching the courts and police since the beginning of this year so far, pointing out that there are a number of cases related to reports dealt with Legal, social and psychological, and follow up part of it with the help of the concerned authorities in the Emirate.

In detail, Amina Al Rifai, Director of the Child Protection Department at the Department of Social Services, said that the Department was established to keep pace with the UAE's directions to build a safe and non-violent society in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. A safe environment for children, pointing out that the Department has received a number of cases of violence since the beginning of the year, and resolved 45 of them cases relating to the protection of children amicably, without access to the courts and police stations.

She noted that the Department provided shelter for a number of cases, due to the lack of shelter, for its own circumstances, and all forms of social, psychological and other support were provided until their problem was resolved, either by the Center, the police or the court.

She pointed out that most of the reports are received through the Child Helpline (800700), through which cases of violence against the child are reported, whether by contacting the child in person or a relative, in the event of physical, emotional, sexual, neglect, or commercial abuse. The Center deals with the communication, sheltering and psychological treatment of cases to recover from the effects of violence, rehabilitate their families, return them to their families and follow up on them, and ensure that they are not subjected to repeated violence or harm.

Al-Rifai pointed out that the administration, when receiving the case or report, classifies the type of communication, in terms of priority and problem, and then intervene immediately within one hour, in case of urgency by moving the response teams of the child rescue line to the site of the communication, to raise the risk of The child, through the procedures and protection measures followed, indicating that the abuser is dealt with by violating judicial capacity, in the event of assault or violence, to ensure that the abuse does not recur, or a communication is opened in police stations when needed, if the family is not. Cooperating.

She continued that after receiving the communication and solving the problem suffered by the child, by registering him in the clinic «Ishraqa» for the required psychological support, and rehabilitation of the psychological, in order to eradicate the impact of abuse.

She explained that the child may be subjected to violence, either in the vicinity of his home or school, pointing out that the causes of violence against the child, due to psychological disorders, and several life pressures, pointing out that the large movement of children and their reckless behavior, may be one of the causes of physical violence on them. Some parents resort to beating their children to raise them, because of their inability to contain them, and disturbed by their behavior, as this is a kind of physical violence.

Spreading a culture of understanding and tolerance

The Director of the Child Protection Department at the Social Services Department, Amina Al Rifai, confirmed that the Department seeks through its initiatives and awareness campaigns carried out in cooperation with several bodies responsible for children in the Emirate of Sharjah, to spread the culture of understanding, tolerance, dialogue and partnership at the level of the family and society, and raise awareness to reduce violence Against children, promoting interpersonal dialogue, and intervening to ensure protection, justice and dignity for child victims of violence.
