A man has died and a Civil Guard agent has been injured and evacuated to a hospital during a fight recorded on Sunday afternoon in Lanjarón, in the Alpujarra of Granada, as reported by sources of the 112 emergency service and the Benemérita

The sources of the Civil Guard, who has taken charge of the investigation, have indicated that the agent was wounded by a knife and his assailant, once arrested, vanished and died.

The event occurred shortly before 17.20 hours, at which time a phone call has alerted 112 that a fight was taking place between two people on the Avenida de la Alpujarra de Lanjarón.

Health sources have added that the civil guard has been evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in Granada capital, where he remains under observation and pending evolution, while the body of the deceased has been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine, where he will be practiced the autopsy to know the causes of death.

Agents from the Local Police and the Civil Guard, Civil Protection volunteers and health services moved to the scene of the incident.

The City Council of Lanjarón has issued a statement in which its mayor, Eric Escobedo, has wished for a speedy recovery for the injured and has asked that the work of the authorities not be hindered and the work necessary to "clarify the facts" be facilitated.

"From the City Council any type of violence is condemned and it is recalled that Lanjarón is a municipality of peace, where there is no place for situations of this caliber," Escobedo concluded.
