"The highest professional": the vice-speaker of the Federation Council Evgeny Bushmin has died

The vice-speaker of the Federation Council, Evgeny Bushmin, died in his 62nd year after a long illness. This news was reported by the chairman of the committee on the regulation of the upper house of parliament Vyacheslav Timchenko.

“He was a very courageous, strong man, he struggled with the disease for a long time, defeated it several times, but, unfortunately, today we received news of his death,” RIA Novosti quoted Timchenko as saying.

According to preliminary information, Bushmin’s funeral may take place on October 8 at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow.

Timchenko said that the Federation Council will not rush to elect a new vice speaker of the chamber, whose position was held by Bushmin. He oversaw the issues of budget and financial markets, the economic bloc.

“There is no urgent need for this; there is no need for rush here. It is unlikely that this issue will be considered at the next meeting, ”RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev expressed his condolences to Bushmin’s family and friends. The corresponding message was distributed by the press service of the head of the Cabinet.

Condolences expressed Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko. According to the press secretary of the head of the upper house of parliament, Vladislav Ponomarenko, Matvienko and colleagues of the senator were in touch with Bushmin.

The head of the Federation Council committee on social policy, Valery Ryazansky, also emphasized that Bushmin was an excellent specialist. According to Ryazansky, the senator’s colleagues expected that he would recover.

Evgeny Bushmin was born in 1958 in the village of Lopatino, Sergachevsky District, Gorky Region (now Nizhny Novgorod). In 1980, he graduated from Gorky State University. N.I. Lobachevsky as an engineer-economist.

Since 1989, Bushmin has dealt with practical issues in the economics of market relations. He founded in 1990 a company specializing in solving automation problems in medicine and the economics of healthcare.

In the period from 1990 to 1993, he worked as the director of the Joint-Stock Company Research and Production Corporation Kontur, located in Nizhny Novgorod.

Bushmin’s parliamentary career started in 1993 when he was elected to the State Duma. In 1993-1995 he was a member of the Lower House Committee on Budget, Taxes, Banks and Finance.

Later, in 1996-1998, he served as first deputy head of the State Tax Service of the Russian Federation. Soon, Bushmin became Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation, having been in this position from 1998 to 2001.

The senator was the chairman of the Federation Council committee on budget and financial markets from 2001 to 2013, in 2013-2019 he was deputy chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.

During his career, Bushmin was awarded the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree (2005), as well as the Order of Honor (2013) and the Order of Alexander Nevsky (2018).
