Thousands of protesters took to the central streets of Tbilisi, demanding the resignation of the government and trying to break into the building of the Georgian parliament. The protest, which arose because of a protocol error during a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy, escalated into mass anti-government demonstrations and clashes between activists and the police. Georgian Interior Minister Georgy Gakharia urged the demonstrators to abide by the norms of the law and suggested that the unrest was organized by certain political forces that are trying to plunge the country into chaos. In addition, the Minister expressed his willingness to resign.
