As TASS notes, the parliamentary majority decided to resubmit the bill on transparency of foreign influence to parliament after consultations with the political council.

An attempt to pass this law in 2023 led to protests in Tbilisi. The document provided for the creation of a register of non-governmental organizations, media and entities that receive money from a foreign state.

As a result, amid protests, the law was withdrawn. The US State Department subsequently advised the Georgian authorities not to return it to the agenda, because such a law was “incompatible with Georgian and Euro-Atlantic values.”

Washington then did not rule out imposing sanctions against representatives of the Georgian authorities.
