Brigadier Erwan Potier, from Oise, died on May 21 after succumbing to his injuries, caused by an accident in February 2018 while deployed in Lebanon.

A 23-year-old French soldier died on May 21 after being seriously injured in an accident in Lebanon in early 2018, the Facebook page of his regiment said on Wednesday.

Brigadier Erwan Potier, from Senlis in the Oise, was deployed to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon when he was seriously injured in a light armored vehicle (LAV) accident in February 2018, details the 501st tank battalion on the social network.

Hospitalized since repatriation

Repatriated to France and admitted to intensive care at the military hospital in Percy, he was then transferred to a specialized facility in June 2018 before succumbing to his injuries on May 21, "after bravely struggling for many months" according to his regiment. The 1st class soldier was promoted to the rank of brigadier and posthumously awarded the military medal.
