Russian Defense Ministry announced on August 18 that 15 Russian soldiers were killed as Russian military planes scouting over the Mediterranean Sea close to Syria were shot down by the Asaudi regime's ground-to-air missile. It seems that the regime military misunderstood as Israeli army which started attacking nearby. Russia violently criticized Israel as "hostile provocative act" about Israel's attack.
According to the ministry, four Israeli military aircraft began attacking the regime power facilities in Latakia, Northwest Syria on the Mediterranean coast late Monday. The regime's army fought back and said that the Russian military aircraft, which was about to land at the nearby Russian Air Force Base, was involved.
Israeli troops acknowledged the attack on the territory of Syria on 18th, and announced a statement that "(shooting down) is caused by anti-aircraft shooting of the incorrect Assad regime."
The Russian side said that the Israeli army informed the attack through the hotline was one minute before the evacuation measures could not be taken. Russian Defense Minister Shaig said on Tuesday that he protested that "non-Israeli is on the side" by telephone with Israeli Defense Minister Liberman.
In the Syrian civil war, Russia supports the administration forces. On the other hand Israel warned Iran troops supporting regime forces and attacked more than 200 Syrian targets in the past year and a half. I also urge Russia to exercise influence on Iran. (Moscow = Naoto Kida)
