In recent years, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes in Syria, mostly targeting targets affiliated with Iran and Hezbollah (French)

The Syrian army announced that its air defenses were able to shoot down Israeli missiles fired at the Damascus countryside in the early hours of Saturday morning, in the second attack of its kind in less than a day.

The army reported in a statement that the attack resulted in some material losses.

Syria indicated earlier on Friday that its air defenses had shot down two drones in the western suburbs during an attack that also launched from the Golan Heights. However, Syria did not explicitly blame Israel for this attack.

For its part, the Israeli army confirmed that it does not comment on reports published by foreign media.

Since December, Israeli raids on Syria have witnessed the killing of more than 6 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including a senior intelligence general.

In recent years, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes in Syria, mostly targeting targets affiliated with Iran and Hezbollah, including weapons and ammunition depots, military shipments, as well as Syrian army sites.

But these strikes witnessed an intensification after the outbreak of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, following the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation launched by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on the settlements surrounding the Gaza Strip on the seventh of last October.
