Ben Ali Yildirm, a Turkish politician and former prime minister, is currently in the race to win the post of mayor of Istanbul, one of the most important comrades of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications has been appointed several times by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications. In May 2016, the party elected a new leader, replacing outgoing Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, and remained in this position until the country became the presidential system in 2018.

Birth and birth
Born on December 20, 1955, Ben Ali Yildirm is a well-known neighborhood in the province of Arzangan in northeastern Turkey.
He married Samyha in 1975 and has three children (Bulent, Arqam, Bushra) and six brothers.

Study and training
He moved to Istanbul in his childhood, graduated from the Perry Rees School in 1970, completed high school at Qasim Pasha Secondary School in 1973 and served in 1980 and 1981.

Yildirm wanted to study mechanical engineering, but the seats filled at Istanbul Technical University made him register at the Faculty of Marine Science and Shipbuilding, on the advice of a teacher.

He graduated from the Faculty of Marine Science and Shipbuilding at the Istanbul Technical University, then moved to Sweden where he continued his studies at the International Maritime University of the International Maritime Organization.

Functions and Responsibilities
Ben Ali Yilderm has been in various positions in shipbuilding since 1978, where he worked for the General Directorate of Shipbuilding. Erdogan was impressed by the Yildirim projects and was appointed director of the Istanbul Municipal Bus Company when Erdogan won the presidency.

Yilderm took several duties at the Maritime Transport Directorate in Istanbul between 1994 and 2000 and turned it into one of the world's leading shipping companies.

Political experience
Yildram was one of the founders of the Turkish AK Party with Erdogan and his colleagues. He was elected as parliamentarian for the 22nd session of the Turkish parliament, as deputy for his hometown of Arzangan for the 23rd session, and as deputy of Izmir for the 24th and 26th parliamentary sessions.

In the municipal elections held in 2014, Yildirm ran for mayor of Izmir, known for her secularism, and came in second with 36% of the votes, while his rival Aziz Kuja Oglu of the Republican People's Party won 49.6% of the vote.

Lilderm says he completed 24,800 kilometers of roads linking the Turkish provinces with his high-speed rail projects, the Marmari railway line connecting the two Asian and European sides of Istanbul and the completion of the Black Sea coast road project.

An international railway project linking Baku (Azerbaijan), Tbilisi (Georgia) and Kars (Turkey) was also launched and is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

During his reign, he also carried out outstanding bridge projects, including the third suspended bridge project "Sultan Yawaz Selim" (Selim I Al Othmani) and the "Osman Ghazi" bridge, the fourth longest suspension bridge in the world.

The Eurasia Tunnel project was also launched in the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul, which connects the two sides of the city.

During his reign the number of airports in Turkey increased from 26 to 55 airports, and the number of passengers from 34.4 million to 182 million passengers.

Yildirm announced the construction of the world's largest airports in Istanbul and the opening of its first phase in 2018.

Yildirm was a strong candidate for the AKP presidency alongside Ahmed Daudoglu, but Oglu was chosen to be party chairman at his first extraordinary congress in 2014.
Yildirim was appointed Transport Minister in the 58, 59, 60 and 61 governments,

A few weeks after Mr Oglu resigned from his post at the head of the party and government, the AK Party elected on May 22, 2016, Ben Ali Yildirm as party leader and prime minister.

In March 2019 he ran for mayor of Istanbul.
