  • The full name of the next president of the United States is Joseph Robinette Biden.

  • Joe Biden himself claims, through this

    French-sounding

    middle name

    , French origins.

  • Yet genealogists find no proof of an ancestry linked to the French Huguenots.

"These are salads, it's

fake news

 " annoys genealogist Jean-Louis Beaucarnot.

Long before his election as President of the United States, Joe Biden was able to assert a sort of French ancestry thanks to his original

middle name

: Robinette.

Joe Biden inherited this

middle name

from his father, who was also called Joseph Robinette Biden, who himself got it from his mother.

Robinette was her maiden name.

But if we look a little further, genealogists remain circumspect about Robinette's origin.

A name that sounds old and French

“In the United States, we choose a

middle name

for our children

between the first name and the last name,” explains Jean-Louis Beaucarnot to

20 Minutes

.

It is not mandatory.

Often, it is the mother's maiden name, such as John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

But it could also be anything: another first name, a city name, the name of a person you admire… ”

From there, genealogists have looked into the origin of this French-sounding name.

Joe Biden himself explained: “It's a French name.

It goes back a very long time.

It seems that the Robinettes came with Lafayette and never left.

I don't know… ”As he details in an article in the Revue française de genealogy, Jean-Louis Beaucarnot finds Joe Biden very light on this question:“ He does well to say that he doesn't know anything about it because that this is completely wrong.

It is absolutely impossible to prove that this name has French origins.

"

Huguenots in question

Unlike Donald Trump, whose grandparents were not born in the United States, Joe Biden has a very American family tree.

"But at the moment, it is rather well seen in the United States to have French Huguenot ancestors", remarks Jean-Louis Beaucarnot.

However, genealogists, especially English, concluded that it was impossible to link Joe Biden to a French Huguenot Robinette.

“There were Robinettes in the United States before Lafayette arrived,” explains Jean-Louis Beaucarnot.

We talked about a Quebec origin of the name, it is false.

We then evoked an English genealogy with French Huguenots… ”But here too, the reality is stubborn and the possible Robinette ancestor of Joe Biden dates back to before the arrival of the French Huguenots in England.

"It's a rant"

"When Joe Biden evokes French ancestors named Robinette and who came with Lafayette to the United States, it is an elucubration, a legend", thus slices the genealogist.

As for the real origin of the name Robinette, diminutive of Robin and therefore Rober, English genealogists themselves do not agree on the question.

“No one has succeeded in proving anything, but it is more selling to say 'Joe Biden has French origins' than to simply say 'We don't know'.
