What is CA-CAP?

  CA-CAP is an automobile evaluation project led by Hainan Tropical Automobile Testing Co., Ltd. under the guidance of the China Association for the Promotion of Quality and Safety of Consumer Products, and jointly initiated by more than 20 units including domestic automobile testing institutions and manufacturers.

  Fu Xiaofeng, deputy general manager of Hainan Tropical Automobile Testing Co., Ltd. and director of the CA-CAP evaluation business department, introduced that the CA-CAP test mainly consists of major facilities such as salt spray spray, high-temperature and high-humidity parking, salt water splash road, salt water tank, and gravel impact. Condition composition, each cycle is 24 hours, and the test cycle is 60 cycles.

The evaluation of test results consists of three first-level indicators of corrosion appearance of parts, paint film scratches and functional evaluation, and several secondary indicators, each of which has a corresponding evaluation score.

How did the first batch of vehicles tested by CA-CAP perform?

  According to Fu Xiaofeng, the first batch of 6 vehicles participated in the CA-CAP evaluation, covering various types of vehicles such as sedans, SUVs, independent vehicles, joint ventures, fuel vehicles, and electric vehicles.

Relevant models are purchased by the evaluation team as ordinary consumers in automobile 4S stores after being approved by the China Association for the Promotion of Quality and Safety of Consumer Products.

The evaluation results show that although there is a gap in the performance of self-owned brands and joint venture brands in terms of automobile corrosion resistance, the products of self-owned brands are gradually catching up with the products of joint venture brands.

  According to market user research and statistical data, Chinese consumers are more sensitive to car body scratches and paint scratches, so CA-CAP especially adds the evaluation of car body coating scratches as a bonus indicator.

The results show that the corrosion resistance technology and materials of the door and fender areas of the six tested models are at a relatively high level, indicating that this area is generally valued by various manufacturers, while the roof area has the lowest score and needs to be paid attention to.

  Fu Xiaofeng said that the CA-CAP evaluation exposed a total of 125 corrosion resistance problems of automotive products, among which the problems caused by the manufacturing process accounted for a relatively high proportion.
