A Bloomberg spokesman took to social media to respond to rumors of a rival acquisition.

On December 25, local time, Ty Trippet, a spokesman for Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News, tweeted that the company had no interest in acquiring Dow Jones or The Washington Post.

"We have not had a conversation with anyone or an organization regarding an acquisition," he tweeted.

The tweet was subsequently retweeted by billionaire Bloomberg owner Michael Bloomberg.

Earlier, US news website Axios reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that Bloomberg hopes to expand his media business territory and is interested in acquiring the Wall Street Journal from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp (NWSA.US). Dow Jones, the parent company, or the acquisition of The Washington Post from Amazon (AMZN.US) founder Jeff Bezos.

The report pointed out that Bloomberg believes that News Corp.'s Dow Jones is the most suitable choice, but if Amazon founder Jeff Bezos intends to sell, Bloomberg will consider buying The Washington Post.

After the news came out, News Corporation's share price rose in response.

On the 23rd, US stock prices of News Corporation rose 2.81% to close at $18.31.

For the above news, News Corporation spokesman Jim Kennedy (Jim Kennedy) declined to comment.

Reuters quoted sources on the 23rd as saying that Bloomberg has expressed his desire to own a well-known newspaper for many years, but has not yet contacted Murdoch to discuss the possibility of acquiring Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal.

In 2013, Bezos bought The Washington Post for $250 million.

A spokesman for the newspaper responded on the 23rd that the "Washington Post" will not be sold.

According to Reuters, antitrust experts agree that the merger of Bloomberg and Dow Jones business news units will draw scrutiny from U.S. regulators, especially if the Biden administration takes a tougher approach to enforcing antitrust laws.

According to public information, Bloomberg is a subsidiary of financial news provider Bloomberg, and Dow Jones owns the Wall Street Journal, one of the largest newspapers in the United States.
