This Tuesday afternoon, Emmanuel Macron is expected on the company's site in Crolles, in Isère.

The Head of State will announce the establishment of a new semiconductor factory.

A 6 billion euro project to double the current production capacity and manufacture chips for the automotive, space defense or robotics industries.

It is a proliferation of chips that Grenoble welcomes, these electronic chips that allow us to drive, communicate and turn on our computers.

Emmanuel Macron is expected this afternoon on the site of the STMicroelectronics company in Crolles, in Isère.

The opportunity for the Head of State to announce the establishment of a new semiconductor factory.

A 6 billion euro project

The investment that will be made in Crolles is colossal and will reach nearly 6 billion euros.

With the support of the State, the objective is to double the current production capacity and manufacture chips for the automotive industry, space defense or robotics.

The extension of the Isère site was also the flagship project presented at the "Choose France" summit, intended to highlight the attractiveness of the country which was held yesterday at the Palace of Versailles in the presence of Emmanuel Macron.

By going there today, the president wants to make it a showcase for reindustrialization and French sovereignty in a strategic sector.

Without a semiconductor, there is simply no digital, no computer, no smartphone, and no artificial intelligence.

However, demand has exploded since the start of the Covid crisis and we are facing a shortage.

To make matters worse, these components are mostly made in Asia.

Lagging behind, Europe represents only 10% of the market.
