On the night of the 6th, Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest contract manufacturer of semiconductors, officially announced that it will build Japan's second semiconductor factory in Kumamoto Prefecture in collaboration with the Sony Group and others.

Toyota Motor Corporation has newly invested in the company that will operate the factory, and the total investment, including the first factory being built in Kumamoto Prefecture, will be 20 billion dollars, or over 2.96 trillion yen in Japanese yen.



Additionally, the company aims to begin construction of the second factory by the end of 2024 and begin operations by the end of 2027.

Governor Kabashima of Kumamoto Prefecture made a comment on the night of the 6th regarding the official announcement that TSMC will build Japan's second semiconductor factory in Kumamoto Prefecture.



Governor Kabashima said, ``I am very happy and would like to extend my heartfelt welcome. I have been looking forward to this day.''



He added, ``I believe this is a historic decision that will be a huge step forward toward the goal of realizing the new Silicon Island Kyushu and playing a role in Japan's economic security.・The whole agency will work together to speed up environmental improvements such as measures to deal with wastewater, and to ensure that the acceptance of the second factory goes smoothly.
