This year, the price of auto insurance has fallen by 9 euros on average.

A trend linked to the Covid-19 crisis which has meant that the French have driven less and had fewer accidents.

Insurers were thus able to pass these savings on to their prices.

This average varies by region.

We often talk about the price of gasoline, tolls and repairs, which have been increasing in recent months.

But good news for motorists: they pay an average of 641 euros in insurance costs and this figure is down by 9 euros compared to last year according to data from online insurance comparator Le Lynx.

This decrease is linked to confinements and curfews due to Covid-19, because of which we have driven less in recent months.

There were therefore fewer accidents, and therefore fewer reimbursements to be made for the insurers who were able to pass part of their savings on to the rates.

The drop is also linked to new, more flexible offers which allow you to pay only when you are driving.

The figure of 641 euros is a national average.

At the local level, we do not pay the same amount depending on the region.

The best off are Breton drivers who pay an average of 533 euros per year, while in Paca, motorists pay 717 euros per year.

This is a little more than what vehicle owners pay in Île-de-France, with 708 euros.

Prices vary a lot according to age: 971 euros for those under 25 and 427 euros for those over 55.
