I reported that when disposing of plastic bottles in an apartment complex, washing them thoroughly and removing the labels is also a waste of effort.

This transparent PET separation system will be extended to multi-family and detached houses from the end of this month.

<Reporter> It

is a residential area where a transparent PET pilot project has been in progress since last month.

There is a recycling bin on one side of the alley.

A separate box for transparent plastic bottles has been created, but not a few residents are unaware of it.

[Resident: (This is regular plastic and this is transparent plastic, so you're a little confused?) Take this (label) off and put it in here?] The

same goes for another collection site nearby. This is mixed.

[Resident: (Separate discharge of transparent PET) doesn't work well. On Saturdays or Sundays, this place just overflows... .]

Waste plastics are collected at the public sorting site operated by the ward office, but there are obstacles here as well.

In order to make transparent PET into high-quality raw material used for long fibers for clothing or food containers, sorting must be done in an uncontaminated, dedicated facility, but only 7% of the 187 public sorting centers nationwide have dedicated facilities.

The Ministry of Environment said it would invest 5 billion won each year to build 20 dedicated facilities every year, but it will take several more years to install all the other sorting plants.

You are rushing to implement it without even preparing for it.

[Recycling industry official: (Separate discharge of transparent PET at the end of this month) It is now implemented nationwide.

That is why (the government) only announces it and only promotes it, and whether it becomes a business or not is now behind the

scenes

.] If

the vicious cycle of mixing and disposing of them is not resolved, even if they are put together with effort, eventually, citizens' will to participate in segregation can be stymied. Being there is the biggest problem.
