Major distribution company Aeon announced that it will voluntarily recall approximately 860,000 2-liter bottles of private brand drinking water. This is because it was confirmed that a strange odor was coming from the outside of the cap, and so far there have been no reports of any health hazards.
Aeon is voluntarily recalling the private brand PET bottled drinking water ``Top Valu Best Price Natural Water 2000ml Collected in Japan'', which has a best-before date of February and March of the year after next. The lot is over 860,000 pieces.
This product is manufactured at a subcontractor's factory in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, and will be sold at supermarkets in 11 prefectures, including the Tokyo metropolitan area, Kansai, and Chubu, from February 27th to April 1st this year. It was sold at ``My Basket'' and ▽discount store ``The Big.''
According to the company, since March 27th, several customers who purchased the product have complained of a mold-like odor, and upon investigation, the company confirmed that a strange odor was coming from the outside of the cap. That's it.
For this reason, sales were discontinued on April 1st.
According to the company, no bacteria have been detected in the investigation so far, and there have been no reports of health damage.
The company is investigating the cause.
