In case of a power shortage due to a large-scale disaster, etc., the power company has completed the expansion work of the facility to exchange power between eastern Japan and western Japan, and the power that can be accommodated will increase from the 31st. It was.

When there is a concern about power shortage due to a power plant failure, electric power companies can accommodate and compensate for power shortages across regions, but since the frequencies in eastern and western Japan need to be converted, the amount that can be accommodated is limited. Has been done.

For this reason, TEPCO and Chubu Electric Power have been working on strengthening frequency conversion equipment and power transmission equipment for five years, and the recently completed equipment in Nagano Prefecture was released before the start of operation on the 31st.

As a result, the amount of electricity that can be interchanged between eastern and western Japan will increase by 900,000 kW from the previous 1.2 million kW to 2.1 million kW.

Regarding the interchange of electric power across regions, the national government and major electric power companies are strengthening measures based on the lessons learned from the fact that stable supply was hindered within the jurisdiction of TEPCO during the Great East Japan Earthquake 10 years ago.

A series of construction work will cost about 130 billion yen, and will eventually be added to the electricity bill nationwide except Okinawa.

Shintaro Fujioka, Group Manager of Shin-Shinano, Tokyo Electric Power Power Grid, said, "We would like to contribute to the stable supply of electric power by operating this facility in Japan, where there are many earthquakes."
