The project will meet the requirements of 2030 with 38 million passengers, 300,000 tons of cargo and mail, and aircraft takeoff and landing. The target of 300,000 sorties was designed.

This also marks that the largest civil aviation airport project in the history of civil aviation development in Gansu has entered the construction and implementation stage.

  As the gateway airport of Gansu Province, the third phase of the airport carries Gansu's mission of fully undertaking the national "One Belt One Road" initiative and supporting the "Silk Road Air Corridor", and is responsible for the Civil Aviation Administration of China to "make Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport a model airport in the west" Goals and major responsibilities for important hub projects in the "two verticals, two horizontals and one hub" of Gansu Province.

  Since returning to provincial management in 2015, Lanzhou Airport has achieved a historic leap in passenger throughput from more than 6 million to more than 12.8 million, creating a record of the shortest time and the fastest increase in domestic airports breaking the tens of millions mark.

The passenger throughput has doubled in three years, and the national airport ranking has risen by 5 places, becoming the fastest-rising airport among domestic large airports.

  In recent years, Zhongchuan Airport has continuously increased the density of most of the backbone routes from Lanzhou to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, etc., covering all provincial capitals, major tourist cities, and important commercial cities except Xining.

  It is worth mentioning that the airport’s cargo routes have been created from scratch. Four historic cargo routes have been opened. The cargo and mail throughput has increased by 10,900 tons in three years. The regular domestic cargo charter flights and irregular international cargo charter flights have ended Gansu. For a long time, there is no history of full-duty all-cargo routes, and it also opened a new era of all-cargo aircraft in Gansu.

  The construction period of the expansion project is 4 years, and the estimated investment of the airport project is 33.438 billion yuan.

Two new runways, a T3 terminal of 400,000 square meters and a comprehensive transportation center of 270,000 square meters will be built, and auxiliary production and living facilities such as freight, fire and rescue will be constructed.

  According to official sources, after the project is completed and put into operation, Zhongchuan Airport will form a modern airport with 3 runways, 3 terminals, and a coordinated operation of the east and west terminal areas to build air routes covering the whole province, connecting the whole country, and connecting the world. Network, creating a key node of three-dimensional transportation in the Silk Road Economic Belt.
