The Executive Committee of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council issued a decision to form the Labor Committee, headed by the Chairman of the Department of Economic Development.

The decision stipulated that the committee includes in its membership the representative of the Department of Economic Development, in addition to representatives from the Judicial Department - Abu Dhabi, the General Command of the Abu Dhabi Police, the Finance Department, the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the Health Department, the Community Development Department and the Higher Corporation for Specialized Economic Zones , The General Administration of Aliens and Ports Affairs / Federal Authority for Identity and Nationality /, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

And taking into account the relevant federal and local legislation, the committee is concerned with setting, implementing, following-up and evaluating inspection programs for the various establishments operating in the private sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, to verify their commitment to labor legislation in terms of contract safety and to ensure that workers receive all their financial entitlements and allocations and other rights. The committee also specializes in coordinating with the relevant authorities to ensure the provision of a suitable living environment for employment.

The committee is also responsible for setting up a mechanism to receive complaints arising between the worker and employers in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The committee monitors the situation of the troubled companies through reviewing the records and the wage protection program, in a manner that protects the employment rights. Among the powers of the committee are to review legislation, systems and policies for organizing the labor market and to propose whatever supports the economy and business environment, in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The committee is concerned with proposing alternative solutions that may contribute to reducing labor complaints, and sponsoring and encouraging programs that aim to inform, educate, and familiarize workers and employers with labor legislation, their rights and obligations.
