Why change? Medef and the French Association of Private Enterprises (Afep) have called for a "moratorium" on certain future environmental standards, due to the coronavirus crisis, a ministerial source told AFP on Tuesday.

Medef sent a letter on April 3 to the Minister for the Ecological Transition Elisabeth Borne, demanding, among other things, a "moratorium" on the decrees implementing the law of February 10 against waste and for the circular economy, according to the Duck Chained.

A moratorium on the entire anti-waste law

"They are asking for a moratorium on the whole law (anti-waste) but there are measures applicable from January 1, 2021" and "the challenge is not to delay discussions on the implementing decrees", confirmed the cabinet of Secretary of State Brune Poirson.

“Of course we will take into account the implication of this coronavirus crisis, but this can only be exceptional. We will not go back on the ambitions of the text, ”added this source. This law provides in particular for the creation of new polluter pays sectors, the prohibition for large surfaces or online platforms to destroy unsold unsold products in 2022 or the elimination of plastic containers in fast foods in 2023.

"We must not give way on the objectives set"

In a note, Afep is also targeting European regulations and claims, for example, to "postpone for one year" the revision of the directive on industrial CO2 emissions. “It is not entirely surprising. It's a survival reflex. To be reassured, we cling to the past. However, we must not give up on the objectives set and above all not go backwards ”, underlines the deputy LREM Bérangère Abba.

“It's lobbying in the old hallways. This is no longer possible. It is counterproductive. It is not the lobbying that I denounce, but the lack of transparency and the refusal (of Medef) to communicate this mail, ”reacts for his part Matthieu Orphelin, ex-LREM and close to Nicolas Hulot.
