The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has warned of the presence of toxic substances in some lipsticks of the brands Kiko , MAC and Too Faced .

The organization notes that mineral oils - Mineral Oils Saturated Hydrocarbons (MOSH) and Mineral Oils Aromatic Hydrocarbons (MOAH) - are present in some lipsticks and lip protectors of these brands after conducting a joint study with the associations of Belgium, France, Italy and Portugal.

These substances appear as impurities in the manufacturing process of different mineral oils derived from petroleum that are used as lipstick ingredients.

From the OCU they explain that MOSH can have harmful effects on the liver and, although there is no regulation on its use, manufacturers recommend that its use does not exceed 5% of the total saturated hydrocarbons.

For their part, MOAH substances are considered carcinogenic and their use is prohibited in food by the European Food Safety Authority, although there are no restrictions on cosmetics.

After analyzing matte red lipsticks, the OCU has concluded that the use of 3 of the nine brands is not recommended due to the presence of MOSH and MOAH. These are: MAC Retro Matte Lipstick No. 707, KIKO iD Velvet Passion Matte Lipstick No. 05 and TOO FACED Peach Kiss Stop Traffic.

Also, from the organization ask the authorities to set maximum limits for the presence of these substances.
