A sailor in his 50s who had his finger amputated while working on a large cargo ship in the middle of the sea was safely operated on land by relay transfer by the maritime police and fire department.



According to the Jungbu Regional Coast Guard today (3rd), at around 5 pm yesterday, sailor A (55) had an accident with his left index finger amputated while working on a 9,000-ton cargo ship located 101 km southwest of Socheong-do, Ongjin-gun, Incheon.



Upon receiving the report, the Coast Guard dispatched a 500-ton guard vessel, and at 7:17 pm, moved Mr. A from the cargo ship to the guard vessel using a high-speed single boat.



Afterwards, the Coast Guard transported Mr. A to nearby Baengnyeong Island while conducting telemedicine with medical staff at a hospital in Gangneung, Gangwon-do through the emergency medical system inside the patrol vessel, and then again using a helicopter to land in Incheon.



After arriving on land, Mr. A was transferred to a specialized hospital in Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do by the 119 paramedics, where he underwent joint surgery safely.



A Coast Guard official said, "In order to move the patient to the onshore hospital as soon as possible, we quickly deployed a security vessel, a police box patrol car, and a helicopter.
