The Indian Navy announced that it has successfully subdued pirates who hijacked a cargo ship off the coast of Somalia in eastern Africa and evacuated the crew.

As Yemen's Houthi rebels continue to attack ships in the surrounding waters, there are concerns that Somali pirates will take advantage of this and resume their attacks.

According to the Indian Navy, in December last year, the Indian Navy confirmed that a cargo ship hijacked by Somali pirates was sailing off the coast of Somalia, and on March 15th, it dispatched a destroyer to the area.

Footage released by the Indian Navy shows what appears to be pirates firing at an Indian military helicopter from the deck of a cargo ship.

The Indian Navy was able to subdue 35 pirates and safely evacuate 17 crew members of the cargo ship.

Pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia and around the Gulf of Aden caused a lot of damage, with more than 200 attacks per year from 2009 to 2011, but since then the number has been on the decline and has been on the decline until recently. .

However, since November of last year, the Houthis have been attacking ships one after another in the Red Sea area, and International Maritime Organization Director-General Dominguez said in an interview with foreign media that Somali pirates are targeting ships that have detoured to the Indian Ocean. It has been pointed out that there is a risk that attacks may become active again and that strict vigilance is necessary.
