Today at 9:25 am, a fire that started in a mountain in Chunhwa-ri, Bubuk-myeon, Miryang-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, has not been extinguished for more than 8 hours.

The fire continues to spread as a drying advisory is in effect and strong winds of up to 11 meters in an instant are blowing.

At about 11:45 am, the Korea Forest Service issued a forest fire level 3 and a national crisis warning of 'severe'.

The Fire Department also issued the National Fire Mobilization Ordinance No. 1 and deployed fire fighting vehicles in Busan, Daegu, and Ulsan.

About 1,500 firefighters and 42 helicopters are mobilized to extinguish the forest fire, but it is said that they are having difficulties due to high mountains and strong winds.

“The dry weather seems to be the cause,” said Nam Nam-hyeon, head of the Korea Forest Service, at a briefing.

There have been no casualties or damage to facilities from this fire, but the fire department is building a defense line on the village side in case the fire may strike private houses.

An evacuation order was issued for 100 households and 476 people living nearby.

To date, the area affected by the wildfire is estimated at 150 ha.

President Yoon Seok-yeol also ordered that "all available equipment and manpower be expeditiously put in to put all efforts into early fire fighting."
