Recently, electric stove fire accidents caused by cats frequently occur, so please be careful.

The Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced today (30th) that a total of 107 fires occurred in electric stoves caused by cats from 2019 to last month.

Four people were injured out of 107 cases, and property damage totaled KRW 141.5 million, which is estimated to be approximately KRW 1.32 million per fire.

Electric stove fire accidents caused by cats decreased from 46 cases in 2019 to 28 cases in 2020, but recorded 33 cases by November 2021, showing an increasing trend again.

In particular, 20 of the 33 related fires that occurred this year occurred while residents were away from home for work or going out.

▲ Last year, a cat caught fire by pressing an electric stove in a house in Busan.

A fire accident like this occurs when a cat with a wide range of action climbs up near the electric stove in the kitchen and presses the power switch.

Recently, to prevent fire accidents caused by cats, even a cover that covers the area around the power button of the electric range has attracted attention.

An official from the Fire and Disaster Headquarters emphasized, "When you install an electric range with a built-in operation lock function, or when you are away from home, such as going out, please thoroughly manage the power of the electric range."
