From the player's late scoring in cases of injury, the warning meter whistling and the point-breaking tie between the teams, these are the new rules that you must know for the 2022 World Cup scheduled in Qatar between November 20 and December 18 next.

1. Replacing an injured player

After two years of physical and psychological stress caused by the outbreak of the Corona virus, there is a question that imposes itself more urgently than any previous version: What happens if a selected player in the final squad gets injured or sick before the tournament begins?

According to the regulations of the International Federation of the Game (FIFA), it remains possible to replace a player in the final list "maximum 24 hours before the first match of his team."

However, the FIFA Medical Committee must ensure that "the injury or illness is serious enough to prevent the player" from participating in the tournament.

2. Relays and concussion protocol

After its adoption during the outbreak of the Corona virus, it kept the rule of increasing the number of substitutions from 3 players per match to 5 for each team in all competitions, until it was finally ratified in June by the International Federation Council (IFAB), the guardian of the laws of the game.

On the other hand, IFAB decided to extend until August 2023 the tests on the use of a sixth substitution in the match in the event of a concussion, leaving FIFA to maintain its traditional protocol in the face of skull trauma.

In Qatar, as in Russia 2018, the referee can stop the match “for a period of up to 3 minutes” in the event of a suspected concussion, and the player in question will not be allowed to continue the match except “with the permission of the team doctor” and after evaluation.

3. In the event of equal points

The issue of equal points is the main concern in the group stage only: If two teams get the same number of points, how do we know who will qualify for the quarter-finals?

In order, we must look at: the goal difference for each team, then the most goals scored by the teams.

In the event of a tie between two or more teams, the standings will be as follows: Points obtained by the team in the matches between the teams concerned.

The goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned.

The largest number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned, up to the fair play rule, which is determined on the basis of color cards if a tie continues.

Fair play points are calculated as follows: (yellow card 1–, indirect red card (two yellow cards) 3–, direct red card 4–, yellow card and direct red card 5–).

However, if all this fails to break the tie, the drawing of lots shall be adopted.

4. Alarm counter beeps

If a player or official receives two yellow cards in two different matches, he will be automatically suspended in the team's next match.

But to avoid depriving any player from playing the final due to receiving his second yellow card in the tournament in the semi-finals, the warning meter is blown after the quarter-finals.
