After a couple of years of cohabitation with William Poromaa in Sollefteå, this summer Frida Karlsson chose to move about 16 miles inland to the winter sports metropolis of Östersund.

A move which means that Karlsson has the opportunity to train together with her former colleagues, even though she has left the national team.

Linn Svahn, Ebba Andersson and Jonna Sundling, among others, already live in Östersund.

When SVT Sport is on site during a roller skiing session at the stadium in Östersund, newly moved Karlsson is joined by Sundling.

Also Ebba Andersson, little brother Fredrik, Moa Lundgren and Marcus Grate whiz by on the track.

"It's worth its weight in gold"

- That's what's so great about living here in Östersund, there are so many like-minded people and when you're in the same place, you can just talk to each other and run intervals together or go out on a long run.

It's worth its weight in gold, says Sundling.

We saw that you drove a bit with Frida today, did it look nice?

- Yes, but it's nice to be able to run into someone like that and maybe go for a ride together.

You don't always have to plan to train with someone like that.

They have chosen a different path and are following their gut feeling, and I think that is absolutely right.

Sundling understands the breakaway trio's decision to leave the national team, but for her, on the other hand, it was obvious to stay - even though she too sees potential for improvement in the system.

- What I may have missed is the high height then, but then I had to put it in myself and got it anyway.

Otherwise, I have enjoyed myself very well, says Sundling.

Went on own high altitude camp

In July, Sundling, together with clubmate Emma Ribom, chose to go on their own high-altitude camp to Lavazé in Italy.

They paid for the trip themselves and they went there without a coach.

- We had a great time in Lavazé, it was the first time we were there at 1800 (meters above sea level, ed. note).

Nice to run, nice to roller ski, and I really want to go there again.

It was a lovely thing to do when you had nothing to do during the month of July.

- It means a lot that you and a friend can go away and train.

For example, we didn't have a trainer with us, we took care of ourselves and we almost didn't want to go home from there because we were so at home.

Would you have liked the national team to have organized a high-altitude camp instead?

- Yes, but I absolutely would have done that.

After all, it was already planned to only be in Sweden.

So we knew about this and that's why we set up our own camp in July.

But I like to train at high altitudes, which Emma does too, so we wouldn't have refused to have something at a high altitude.
