Ingebrigtsen went on the back of the hare Matthew Ramsden who rushed away the first lap in 54.19.

The pace dropped slightly during the second and third laps before the Norwegian shook off the only threat Timothy Cheruiyot just before the race.

The Norwegian had good control and won in a world annual best of 3.29.02 – to be compared with the personal record of 3.28.32 from the Olympic final last year.
