Although Nate Diaz has fallen on the rankings after the losses against Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards, the 37-year-old American cemented his status as one of the UFC's most popular fighters in connection with his famous matches against superstar Conor McGregor in 2016. The first was won by Diaz but in the return meeting he was beaten by McGregor.

Since then, there have only been three fighters for Diaz who have long been waiting for the right opponent for their final match on their current UFC contract.

Now he's found him.

According to ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto, Diaz will face Khamzat Chimaev on September 10 in Las Vegas.

The match will be a five-rounder and is booked as the gala's main event.

"This is the fight Nate has been asking about since mid-April," Diaz agent Zach Rosenfield told ESPN.

According to Chimaev, however, Diaz will not have much to gain.
