Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas broke through when, as a 20-year-old, she won silver in the triple jump at the Indoor World Championships in Portland in 2016. The same year, she also won the silver medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

This summer, she finally won Olympic gold in Tokyo, in total she has five World Cup golds, one Olympic gold and one Olympic silver.

On Saturday, she began the outdoor season in the Spanish coastal city of La Nucia, Alicante.

There she hit with a jump of 14.83 meters in the fourth round - new world year best.

Has a World Cup gold to defend

The world best of the year was previously held by the Cuban Leyanis Perez-Hernandez at 14.58, which she set in May.

Rojas, who also holds the world record of 15.67 meters, has with the result started the season well, which bodes well for this summer's World Cup in Eugene where she has a World Cup gold to defend.
