German football star Mesut Ozil called for solidarity with the Muslims of India in light of the persecution and repeated attacks on their properties by Hindu groups in the country.

"We pray on the blessed Night of Power for the safety and security of our Muslim brothers and sisters in India," Ozil said in a tweet on his Twitter account on the occasion of the 27th night of Ramadan.

The former Real Madrid and Arsenal player urged to spread awareness about the violations committed against the Muslim community in various Indian cities and states, describing the prevailing situation as "outrageous".

"Let's spread awareness of this outrageous reality, what is happening to human rights in the so-called largest democracy in the world?" Ozil said.

Ozil's tweet got hundreds of thousands of likes and comments, and the interactors expressed their solidarity with the Muslims of India.
