The championship was supposed to be held in St. Petersburg on May 5-21, 2023. But today, the IIHF decided that this will not be the case.

A new organizer will be presented at the end of the Ice Hockey World Cup in Tampere, Finland, which starts on 13 May.

"With regard to the safety and well - being of the players, referees, media and supporters, the IIHF has decided to withdraw Russia's hosting rights for the 2023 World Ice Hockey Championships," the IIHF wrote on its website.

Russia was originally also to host the JVM 2023 in Omsk and Novosibirsk, but after the country's invasion of Ukraine, the organizers were withdrawn.
