The International Ice Hockey Federation strips Russia of the right to host the 2023 World Championships

The International Ice Hockey Federation announced on Tuesday that Russia will be stripped of the right to host the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships.

"The decision to transfer the tournament came primarily out of concern for the safety of all participating players, officials, representatives of the media and fans," the International Federation said in a statement.

"The council has expressed great concerns about the safety and freedom of movement of players and officials in Russia," he added.

The 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships was supposed to be held in Saint Petersburg from May 5 to 21, 2023.

The International Federation had also recently stripped Russia of the right to host the World Junior Championships, which was scheduled for next year.

The Federation indicated that it will make its decision regarding the hosting country during the World Championships scheduled for this year in Finland, which will be held next May.

It should be noted that Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the tournament due to the crisis of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
