The presidential election of the International Gymnastics Federation was held in Turkey on the 6th, and as a result of the vote, Chairman Morinari Watanabe was re-elected.

On the 6th, the International Gymnastics Federation held a presidential election, which had been postponed since October last year due to the influence of the new coronavirus, at the general meeting held in Turkey.



Two people, IOC = International Olympic Committee member Watanabe, who is aiming for the second term, and Farid Gaibov, chairman of the European Gymnastics Union, ran for the election.



According to the International Gymnastics Federation, as a result of voting by representatives of 128 countries and regions, Chairman Watanabe was re-elected with 81 votes, Mr. Gaibov with 47 votes, and Chairman Watanabe with more than half of the votes.



The term of office is usually four years, but because the election has been postponed by one year, Chairman Watanabe's second term will be three years from January 1, next year.



Chairman Watanabe is 62 years old from Fukuoka prefecture.

While attending university, I encountered rhythmic gymnastics in Bulgaria, where I studied abroad, and after graduating, I was involved in the establishment and operation of a rhythmic gymnastics club at a company where I got a job.



After that, he served as a managing director at the Japan Gymnastics Association, and became a director of the International Gymnastics Federation in 2013.

In 2016, he became the chairman of the International Gymnastics Federation as the head of the international sports organization for the Olympic Games, the first Japanese in 22 years.
