Presidential election in Comoros: Azali Assoumani declared winner in the first round

Outgoing President Azali Assoumani was declared the winner of the first round of the presidential election on Tuesday (January 16th) with 62.97% of the vote.

The former military putschist, who will thus be re-elected for a third consecutive term, won 33,209 votes, or 62.97% of the votes cast, announced in the evening the president of the electoral commission, Idrissa Said Ben Ahmada. Facing him, Salim Issa Abdallah obtained 10,684 votes in his favour (20.26%). In third place is Daoudou Abdallah Mohamed with 3,102 votes (5.88%).
