The big FC Bayern just put the small SC Freiburg in their place in the top duel in the Bundesliga.

The German soccer record champions won against the previously strong Breisgauer after a close game with 2: 1 (1: 0) and consolidated their lead in the standings with the ninth win of the season.

For Freiburg it was the first defeat of the season in a hard-fought summit.

Leon Goretzka scored the 1-0 for Julian Nagelsmann's team in the duel of the best attack against the best defense in the 30th minute. The previously inconspicuous Robert Lewandowski increased with his 13th goal of the season (75th). Janik Haberer (90. + 3) shortened for the guests. Freiburg remained unsuccessful in the league at Bayern Munich's 22nd attempt (19 defeats, three draws). The Munich Allianz Arena was sold out for the first time since March 8, 2020 with 75,000 spectators.

“We want to take an active part and not hide.

Either it works, or we get the skin pulled over our ears, ”said SC coach Christian Streich at Sky before the game.

Said and done.

The SC designed the game openly, pushed Bayern up and almost took the lead after a few seconds when Lucas Hernandez almost hit his own goal during a clarification campaign.

As a result, SC keeper Mark Flekken saved against Niklas Süle (4th) and Alphonso Davies (5th / 6th).

Goretzka closes coldly

The Munich team then had some problems with the courageous guests, who were able to sort themselves defensively again and again and hardly gave Bayern any room.

As announced, Freiburg also set accents offensively.

Joshua Kimmich started the best chance with a mistake, but Lucas Höler (12th) missed the target a little hastily.

Only after a good 20 minutes did Bayern become more determined.

However, Leroy Sane and Kimmich failed because of Flekken, who then had no chance when Thomas Müller skilfully played Goretzka free with his eighth assist this season and he finished it freezing cold.

It was the wake-up call.

Then the SC had to survive some dangerous situations against now more active and sovereign Bayern.

After the break, the SC came back into play better and fired two warning shots.

Bayern shuddered and quickly took the initiative again.

Flekken parried a flutter ball from Sane before he was very lucky with a shot from the post by Goretzka (59th).

The game remained close afterwards.

Bayern always had to be careful, but had other chances.

Goretzka's shot streaked over the goal (68th), then Lewandowski was right.
