It was far from a walk in the park at the old fortress of Terezin.

- I had a great race in the beginning and on the long distance I thought the route was good but it was through the finish area and I could not run there, "it will not work, now I lose a lot of time" and became stressed and really dumb.

It was a tough race, says Alexandersson to SVT Sport.

"Totally amazing"

A calculated and panicked Alexandersson could still win even if it required a hefty discharge.

- It was just trying to refocus, never giving up.

Now it feels absolutely fantastic, admits a radiantly happy Alexandersson.

Towards the end of the course, about ten runners were gathered within about ten seconds.

Alexandersson was first in fourth place and then three seconds behind the leading Dane Maja Alm who had her fifth straight sprint gold within reach.

Alexandersson, however, had good pressure and snorting she was able to climb to her first sprint gold, the eleventh World Cup gold in the 28-year-old's career.

She eventually won by nine seconds ahead of Natalia Gemperle.

Lost at least 38 seconds on the miss

At the first TV check, Alexandersson led by 18 seconds ahead of Natalia Gemperle, but on a long distance inside the fortress she took a path far from the "line".

Alexandersson then had a 32-second lead which disappeared to be three seconds behind the then leading Alm.

Compared to Alm, she lost 38 seconds on the unfortunate choice of route.

- Will she come back into the match again?

asked SVT Sports expert Mats Troeng in the broadcast which was exciting with the close top battle.

Afterwards, Troeng admitted that he thought it was driving for Alexandersson.
