Three games, three wins - Borussia Dortmund have continued their recent comeback and can continue to hope for a return to the Champions League.

With the 2-0 (1-0) victory over Union Berlin, the team of coach Edin Terzic kept the four-point deficit in fourth place.

In the empty Signal Iduna Park, Marco Reus (27th minute) and Raphael Guerreiro (88th) scored their deserved success on Wednesday.

As in the previous two games against Stuttgart (3: 2) and Bremen (4: 1), BVB was not naked.

Despite the seventh defeat of the season, the guests also remain in the race for a European competition.

If BVB wants to continue their chase against direct rivals VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday, they will have to do without defense chief Mats Hummels.

The 2014 world champion saw the fifth yellow card.

The Dortmund starting line-up, which was changed to three positions due to coach Terzic's persistent scheduling, initially had obvious orientation problems.

It was only with a lot of luck that she was spared a deficit after just twelve seconds when Berlin's Marcus Ingvartsen hit the crossbar with a long shot after a bad pass from Emre Can.

This faux pas right at the start of the game was like a wake-up call for Borussia.

With greater concentration, she now took over the direction.

So this time Reus, who was ordered into the central offensive midfield, missed the great opportunity to lead after nice preparatory work by Thorgan Hazard.

A little later, Giovanni Reyna (14th) and Hazard (16th) tested guest keeper Andreas Luthe with long shots.

A debatable penalty whistle from referee Daniel Schlager after Luthe fouled Reus brought BVB 1-0.

Although Erling Haaland failed from the point on Luthe, he was lucky that Reus was able to push the rebound over the line from a short distance.

“You have to be clear.

Reus seeks contact and takes off.

That could be corrected from the cellar.

The goalkeeper must take the action that leads to the penalty kick.

Here you can see that Reus is putting his foot out.

I can't say it's a crystal clear wrong decision, but it is controversial, ”complained Berlin's manager Oliver Ruhnert at the TV broadcaster Sky.

Haaland not only showed unusual weaknesses in the missed penalty.

In the 35th minute, the BVB striker failed free-standing by Luthe and thus deprived his team of the reassuring 2-0 lead at halftime.

But after the restart, the Berliners increased their willingness to take risks and sought an open exchange of blows.

That made them more prone to counterattacks.

But BVB striker Reyna (50th) aimed with a lob over goalkeeper Luthe from an acute angle past the gate.

The substitution of Jadon Sancho (59th), who celebrated his comeback after a seven-week break, should revive BVB's weaker attacking game.

Initially, however, this only succeeded moderately.

Because the guests were closer to equalizing a free kick from Max Kruse (66th) on the post than BVB 2-0.

When Berlin threw everything forward, there were spaces for BVB.

First Sancho (84th) and Haaland (86th) failed, then Guerreiro (88th) met Sancho after a strong ball win.

Borussia Mönchengladbach made a big mistake in catching up on the Europa League places.

After a 2-0 break lead, coach Marco Rose's team lost 3-2 at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

Alassane Plea (25th minute) and Valentino Lazaro (45th + 1) first met for the guests in the empty Sinsheim stadium.

Andrej Kramaric (48th / 65th) with his 15th and 16th goals of the season and Ihlas Bebou (60th) turned the game for TSG after the break.

This means that the Gladbachers, who were previously unbeaten in four games, missed the chance to move up to one point on Bayer Leverkusen sixth before the fourth last matchday.

The troubled people from Hoffenheim eliminated the last doubts about staying in the class and won for the first time after five games without a win.

VfB Stuttgart - VfL Wolfsburg 1: 3 (0: 2)

VfB Stuttgart, which has been so enthusiastic for a long time, loses its momentum in the last few meters. The Swabians were defeated by VfL Wolfsburg 1: 3 (0: 2) and suffered their third defeat in the Bundesliga in a row. Xaver Schlager (13th minute), striker Wout Weghorst (29th) and Yannick Gerhardt (65th) scored for the guests, who are well on their way to the Champions League. The Stuttgarters, plagued by numerous personnel problems, on the other hand, can probably put their remaining mini hopes on the European Cup aside for good.

In a game characterized by numerous top chances, coach Pellegrino Matarazzo's team lacked two things in particular: defensive stability and offensive efficiency.

Fittingly, Philipp Förster (26th) missed a hand penalty, and the midfielder even put the margin over the goal.

Only Gonzalo Castro scored in stoppage time.
