It was perhaps not the most anticipated match in the premiere of JVM.

Switzerland and Slovakia, who according to most advance tips should have nothing to do with the medal placements in the tournament, were pitted against each other on Christmas Eve.

It would turn out to be a goal-oriented deal.

Both goalkeepers kept their zero intact until the Slovak Roman Faith stayed ahead on a return from the Swiss goalkeeper Thibaut Fatton and scored 1-0.

Switzerland pressed at the end and got the chance in powerplay with just over two minutes left but the Slovaks resisted and were able to secure the premiere win in the tournament.

The victory means that Slovakia takes an early lead in Group A, which also houses the pre-favorite Canada.
