  • The first French region to embark on the adventure, Brittany now sponsors an e-sport team.

  • The seven players who make up the Crazy Esport Région Bretagne team will be supported like high-level athletes.

  • Financial assistance will also enable them to travel to major competitions organized internationally.

Land of footballers, sailors and cyclists, Brittany now also relies on its gamers to make people talk about it in the sports section.

After a call for projects launched in June, the region has found its team which will wear its colors in major electronic sport competitions.

It is called Crazy Esport Région Bretagne and consists of seven players, including four Bretons.

All specialists of a game (

Fifa

,

Tekken

,

Soulcalibur

,

Street Fighter

...), they are also far from being rounds since they are among the best French players, and even world players for some like Super Akouma or Gehaktbal .

The leaders of the Crazy Esport Région Bretagne team have formed a team of seven players.

"Even if we have a track record already well supplied, we are still small compared to other structures that can afford to pay large salaries to their players", underlines Edern Plantier, sports director of the Crazy Esport team, who has was created in 2014 in Morbihan.

Because as in football, money is the sinews of war in e-sport, which in a few years has become a huge global business.

What did not escape the Breton elected officials.

"We said to ourselves that it was nonsense not to be interested in e-sport knowing that 37 million French people play video games," said Loïg Chesnais-Girard.

More than a business of big money, the president of the region sees it rather "a question of image" for Brittany, the first to sponsor an e-sport team in France.

Physical and mental preparation for the players

From next year, the Crazy Esport team will therefore receive financial support of 10,000 euros from the Brittany region.

"This will help us to participate in national and international competitions in order to pay in particular for the transport and accommodation of our players", indicates Edern Plantier.

A boost which is also accompanied by “performance support” for the seven team members who will benefit from physical and mental preparation within the Campus Sport Bretagne as well as nutritional advice.

"E-sport is a real sport and they will therefore be supported in the same way as other high-level athletes, it is not just a gadget", assures Loïg Chesnais-Girard.

Very attentive to the hygiene of life and the sleep of his players, Edern Plantier believes that this support from the region will allow them "to become even more professional", with the objective that they all qualify in their respective games for World Tour events.

"It's also good for visibility and for credibility with other partners," said the sporting director.

A formula that therefore seems win-win on paper.

To be confirmed now with results.
