Diego Maradona will be operated on Tuesday for a hematoma in the brain, said his doctor, who specifies that "it is a routine operation".

The former footballer had been transferred to a clinic in northern Buenos Aires.

60-year-old Argentine football idol Diego Maradona will be operated on Tuesday for a subdural hematoma on his head, his doctor Leopoldo Luque announced.

"I'm going to operate on him. It's a routine operation," the doctor said at a press conference outside a clinic in northern Buenos Aires where the former champion was transferred. Diego Maradona was admitted Monday to a clinic in La Plata, 60 km south of the capital, for examinations. A scan revealed a hematoma on the head, according to the Argentinian press.
