Diego Maradona to be operated on for a brain hematoma

60-year-old Argentine football icon Diego Maradona will undergo surgery on Tuesday for a subdural hematoma on his head.

The news was announced during a press conference outside a clinic in northern Buenos Aires, where the former champion has been transferred.

Diego Maradona was admitted to a clinic in La Plata, 60 km south of the capital, on Monday for examinations.

A CT scan revealed a hematoma on the head, according to the Argentine press.

Not in good shape with his players

Technical director of the local club (Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata), Maradona had insisted last Friday to lead the training of his players, the day of his 60th birthday, but did not seem in good shape and walked with difficulty.

He only stayed a few minutes on the pitch before retiring with the help of his assistants.
