For the former rider Richard Virenque, cycling consultant of Europe 1, the assembly event on the menu on Saturday of the eighth stage of the Tour de France should allow Julian Alaphillipe to recover the yellow jersey, lost on September 2 after a penalty.

The eighth stage of the Tour de France on Saturday promises to be one of the first pieces of bravery of this 107th edition.

On the program: 141 kilometers in the Pyrenees, between Cazères-dur-Garonne and Loudenvielle, with three passes to cross, including one out of category, that of the Port of Balès.

"It is clear that this stage will be an appetizer", advent a series of other mountain events, assures Richard Virenque, the cycling consultant of Europe 1.

A test cut out for Julian Alaphilippe

"Like last weekend, we might be able to experience a Saturday in yellow, with Julian Alaphilippe taking power," notes the former climber.

"The stage suits him, with this last pass followed by a decent winding".

On September 2, Briton Adam Yates stole the yellow jersey from the Frenchman, penalized by 20 seconds for illegal refueling.

"The favorites should still be observed, the only one who risks trying something to get the yellow jersey is Julian!", Assures Richard Virenque.
