German cycling hopeful Lennard Kämna, 27, was involved in a traffic accident during a training ride on Tenerife and is in hospital for further examinations. This was announced by his German Bora-hansgrohe team. It is not yet known whether Kämna was seriously injured.

»Lennard is approachable and can do anything. But there has already been a real impact. Fortunately, there is no danger to life," team boss Ralph Denk told the "Bild" newspaper: "The crash was obviously not his fault. He collided with a car. According to my information, it happened while turning.”

Kämna, who has already won stages in the three major tours Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta, is currently preparing for his planned start in the Giro d'Italia. The former junior world champion should compete for a place in the top ten overall at the Tour of Italy from May 4th as second captain alongside Daniel Felipe Martinez. He was last in action at the beginning of March on the Tirreno-Adriatico tour, where he finished eighth overall. It is currently uncertain whether Kämna can take part in the Giro.

Roglič crashes on the Tour of the Basque Country

It wasn't the only bad news of the day for Kämna's team. Primož Roglič, one of the top favorites for the Tour de France and new to the Bora-hansgrohe team as overall captain, was also involved in a crash. However, Roglič was able to successfully defend his overall lead on the 3rd stage of the Tour of the Basque Country after this shocking moment. He fell on the way to Altsasu 40 kilometers from the finish, but got back up and managed to catch up with the field.

Roglič suffered abrasions, bruises and bruises from his fall; a concussion was ruled out during an initial examination on the side of the road, as his team announced in the evening. A follow-up examination should follow at the hotel.
