  • The Lyonnaises lifted their seventh Champions League this Sunday by beating Wolfsburg (3-1), in particular thanks to an exciting first period.
  • It is also the fifth coronation in a row for an OL now of the same size, among girls, as Di Stefano's Real Madrid, titled from 1956 to 1960.
  • An XXL performance and even “legendary”, as Jean-Michel Aulas, great builder of this team, praised.

They are still and always on the roof of Europe. With seven coronations over the last ten editions of the Champions League, and now even five in a row, the Lyonnaises embody the French victory. The players of Jean-Luc Vasseur, fourth titled coach with this team, did not really tremble on Sunday to rule out Wolfsburg (3-1) during the outcome of Final 8 in San Sebastián (Spain).

Even deprived of four indisputable holders on Sunday, between Ada Hegerberg, Amandine Henry, Griedge Mbock (injured) and Nikita Parris (suspended), OL notably flew over the first period, made fruitful by the realism of Eugénie Le Sommer (1-0 , 26th) and a sublime long shot from Saki Kumagai (2-0, 45th).

One shot on target, but one goal for Wolfsburg

“It's a lot of emotion to be able to win this final. It's amazing to win five consecutive Champions Leagues. I am really proud of the team ”, rejoiced at the microphone of Canal + Delphine Cascarino, on fire on her right side and logically voted best player of the match by UEFA.

Even the surprise goal of Alexandra Popp (2-1, 59th), on the only shot on target of the evening on the German side, did not really sow doubt in the Lyon camp, released by the third goal of Sara Björk Gunnarsdottir ( 3-1, 89th).

“Each year we had to renew and innovate”

“It's hard to win this cup, we fight every year for that and we will enjoy it, appreciates Wendie Renard. We want to leave a mark and now we have to go for the sixth consecutive Champions League to beat this record. This record is that of a Real Madrid led by Di Stefano so conqueror among men in the 1950s that he had won five C1 in a row (from 1956 to 1960).

OL is its counterpart for women. “It's legendary, enthuses Jean-Michel Aulas. Each year we had to renew and innovate ”. Praising "a resilience to victory and an instinct to question oneself", the President of Lyon has built over time a winning machine. The whole of Europe is more convinced of this than ever.
