It would be a lie to say that this is a big surprise: UEFA issued a "strong recommendation" on Tuesday to end the national competitions suspended due to the coronavirus, during a telephone meeting with its 55 member federations, without however setting a timetable for the resumption of the European Championships and Cups.
"A variety of calendar options" have been presented to the federations for national and European club competitions, added UEFA in a statement without specifying dates. Football competitions have been suspended in the vast majority of European countries since mid-March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
