The young Picard driver Mégane Lombard. - Margaux Ferleu

  • After a break of several years, the young Picarde Mégane Lombard resumed the motorcycle in 2017, in parallel with her studies in foreign languages in Roubaix.
  • His return was punctuated by a title of champion of France on sand in 2018, a third place in 2019 and two victories in the Le Touquet race.
  • She aims for the hat-trick and a place in the Top 200 to shine and stand out.

Mégane Lombard has swapped his helmet for a fashionable little sailor hat. His muddy face also gave way to a pretty smile this morning in Lille, during the interview. But the passion for the motorcycle still perspires with the favorite of the Enduropale, which will be contested this weekend at Le Touquet.

In the press kit for the legendary race, the photo of the young woman sits next to Ramon, Potisek or Watson, the cadors of the discipline. A first for a female competitor. "When I saw that, I told myself that we were walking on our heads ... and that we had passed a milestone in the history of motorcycles," she smiles.

His goal ? "A Top 200"

Without revealing anything, we can tell you that it will not scratch. A “Top 200” would be a success and a record for the young Picarde of 21 years old. On the other hand, in the women's event, she clearly has the odds. Logical, after two successes in a row in Pas-de-Calais.

Leader of the French sand championship, the student could also validate her title during this last special round. "Le Touquet is special, I always came there with my father," she recalls. And with 1,200 participants, three hours of racing and hundreds of thousands of spectators, it's crazy! ".

The same race, a different bib…

Sunday, among the 1,200 drivers at the start of the queen race (12:45 pm), there will only be a dozen competitors identified by their pink bibs. The only difference. "Once you're under the helmet, it's the same ground for everyone," she decides. Amateurs, alumni and champions are mixed, it is only in sand races that we see that. "

At the heart of this pack, Mégane Lombard, on the Honda 250 CRF, will try to stand out. Supported since summer 2019 by the Wonder Bike team of Annezin but not an official pilot, the girl from Fressenville, in the Somme, has not only a sporting interest to shine on the last race of the season on sand. Getting noticed could convince new sponsors.

She dreams of a world grand prize

In 2014, she had to put the motorcycle aside for cost reasons. And if passion has taken over after three years of stopping, the economic realities are still there. "Very few live properly," she analyzes. We will see the proposals, but I would like to make a grand prize in the world championship, in Valkenswaard, in the Netherlands, for example ”.

In the meantime, the foreign language student in Roubaix is preparing for her future. This summer, she will discover other beaches. For example, those in Cape Town, South Africa, where she will do an internship in sustainable trade.
